Immune-Boosting Tea

There is no down side to boosting your immune system.  We need it to always be in tip-top shape since it protects our body from bacteria, viruses, fungi and so much more.  It’s a good idea to show our immune system some love every now and then, especially with the things we eat and drink.

This tea easily gives a boost to the immune system.  It is loaded with antibacterial, anti inflammatory, and antiviral properties, ensuring the immune system gets some assistance when battling all those foreign entities.

This warm beverage can easily be made at home in a matter of minutes.  It is fragrant, spicy, and delicious.  The oregano offers a peppery taste, while the ginger brings its signature spicy kiss to the drink.  Lemon is added to give it a bit of citrusy brightness.  Although I normally enjoy it hot in the winter time, this tea can be served over ice on a warm, sunny day as well.  I left the sweetener out of this recipe, since there is already a lot going on, but feel free to add any if needed.  Just remember certain sweeteners like refined or artificial sugars can cause inflammation – something that counteracts the immune boosting effects this tea offers.

Ingredients

1 ½ tsp dried oregano: the oils in oregano have antibacterial and antiviral properties;

1-2 inches of fresh ginger, peeled and sliced (use less for a milder flavor): contains gingerol which is anti-inflammatory;

1-inch piece of lemon peel plus juice of ¼ lemon: contains vitamin C, to boost immune function

2 cups of water

Directions

Place all ingredients, minus the lemon juice in a medium saucepan on low to medium heat.  Bring to a simmer.  Tea is ready once fragrant and the water has turned an amber color. Strain into a cup.  Squeeze lemon juice into drink and give a stir.  Delicious on its own, but sweetener can be added if necessary.  Top with a lemon slice or wedge if desired for an extra lemony kick.  Sip away.

Processing…
Success! You're on the list.
